The goal of the WX mentoring program is to promote the advancement of women in the real estate professions by introducing mentees to career opportunities and female leaders in various real estate fields. Through formal programs and both formal and informal mentoring, WX aims to provide young women in the real estate industry an opportunity to leverage the knowledge and experience of WX members as they begin their real estate careers. All WX scholarship recipients are eligible to participate in the program.

 

The 2015-2016 mentoring program included the following events:

 

September 29, 2015

Kicking off the mentoring program was a cooking class which allowed mentor and mentee pairs to meet for the first time in a fun and informal setting. This served as an opportunity for participants to learn more about each other as they got to know one another through team building. The evening concluded with the teams sitting down to enjoy the meal they prepared together.

 

December 9, 2015

The second program of the year consisted of several panel discussions surrounding asset management, investment management, government and hospitality. The interactive sessions offered an opportunity for mentees to hear about the various sectors and types of careers available in the real estate world all, directly from WX members who will share valuable experiences and insights as leaders in their respective fields. Attendees joined back to back discussions in their top two sectors to learn more about the various perspectives of the industry.

 

February 23, 2016

The third program of the year consisted of a special tour of Four World Trade Center and a presentation on the current trends and happenings in downtown Manhattan real estate. Current mentees reconnected with other scholarship recipients and WX members and presentations were given by Silverstein Properties regarding the World Trade Center rebuilding, as well as observations on the state of the downtown Manhattan market by WX members and mentees.

 

April 12, 2016

The final mentoring program of the year consisted of an evening of networking and fun at Slate. Mentees and mentors gathered over cocktails, refreshments while enjoying casual games of ping-pong and pool and reflecting on the program year.
